Homemade Tortilla: A Classic Mexican Flatbread Recipe



Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cup Maida/Refined Flour

  2. 1/2 cup Whole wheat flour

  3. To taste Salt

  4. To taste Sugar or powdered sugar

  5. 1/2 tbsp Milk powder

  6. As needed Warm water

  7. 2-3 tbsp Vegetable Oil

  8. 1/2 tsp Baking powder

  9. as needed Ghee (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Stir in water and oil.


Step 2

Turn onto a floured surface; knead 10-12 times, adding a little flour or water if needed to achieve a smooth dough. Let rest for 10 minutes.


Step 3

Divide dough into portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a circle.


Step 4

In a greased hot pan (medium low flame), cook tortillas until they turn light brown in colour. Almost 1 minute on each side.
